Way Kambas National Park is a conservation area of the original animal of Sumatera Island, Sumatran elephant. The conservation area consists of swamp forest with grassland, shrubs, and coastal forest. The total area reaches 125,000 hectares.
The number of elephants trained in Way Kambas reaches up to 300 elephants. These elephants will then be distributed to different zoos in the nation.
As a conservation area, Way Kambas is not only home to Sumatran elephants, it also houses other protected animals. The list of endangered animals includes sun bears, Sumatran rhino, Sumatran tiger, sambas deer, and antelope among others.

Insider's Guide
Way Kambas National Park is open to the public from 8AM to 6PM. The entrance ticket price is Rp 7,000/person and Rp 10,000 for your four-wheeled vehicle. You can also buy the banana to feed to the elephant from the street vendor. You can easily meet the sellers right before you enter the Way Kambas National Park area.
Do make time to witness the rare opportunity of seeing the elephants bathing in the morning. This activity starts at 6AM. After that, try to hop on an elephant for Rp 20,000/round or about 50-100 meters ride.
